The Christian life contains the full breath of the human emotions, the type of emotions that are labelled ‘positive’ and ‘negative’ (such a distinction is interesting itself!). The Psalms also contain the wide breath of human emotions, which may be embarrassing or off putting to the idea that we should only acknowledge the ‘positive’ ones and in many ways suppress the ‘negative’ ones. However, as a great gift to us, the Psalms don’t suppress emotions, and so their realness is engaging to our real lives. As we take Holy week (Thursday-Sunday) as a paradigm, we will consider a Psalm that summarises the experience of that particular day.
The Emotions of Holy Week: A journey through some Psalms
