Advent: preparation towards…

November 26, 2021

Summary

Advent simply means preparation, so it’s supposed to be the period in the church calendar when we prepare for Jesus coming to earth, spiritually and in the organisation for Christmas. Advent has traditionally the double meaning of preparing for the festival (of Christmas), but also making the acknowledgement of Jesus’ second coming—his return to earth—or our calling home, and so preparing to meet him.

This advent we will mark a different form of preparation, specifically preparation to help us stand firm, to enjoy what Jesus has won and will bring as a full culmination of at his second return:

  • Preparation towards Resistance, 1 Peter 5:8-14 (Nov 28th)
  • Preparation towards Rest, Matthew 1:18-25, Matthew 11:25-30 (Dec 5th)
  • Preparation towards Renewal, Luke 1:46-55, Luke 1:67-80 (Dec 12th)
  • Preparation towards Reconciliation, John 1:1-18, Romans 5:6-11 (Dec 19th)
